What does ‘The Giving Birth’ mean?

There is no source for the gift of life.  There is no beginning point.  I was born of my mother and she was born of hers.  Life has been given, and given again throughout all time.  You might trace your beginnings to a creator, be it a mother goddess or I Am.  Even still, these are forces that have always been, and there is therefore still no beginning to the power of giving life.

To give birth is to give life.  It is a woman’s gift.

The cascade of giving for any individual birth is phenomenal.  The act of conception involves a gift from the man’s body to the woman’s. Throughout pregnancy a woman’s body gives to the growing body of her child.  A woman may also give in her thoughts and efforts — giving care in her diet, giving up alcohol or smoking, even her sleep and her dreams are usually given over to her child.  Medical practitioners — be they midwives, doctors, or nurses — are called ‘caregivers’.  When her child is born, a woman is said to have given her husband a son or daughter.  You will give your child a name.  You will give your child your heart.  You will give more than you ever knew you had in you.

Labour and birth are not isolated moments of giving.  Nor are they one-directional gifts.  They are a part of the continuum that began in the beginning and will continue without end.

Here at The Giving Birth you will be given information, inspiration and acceptance.  I do not propose to give you the perfect birth.

That is a gift you must give yourself.
