The Giving Birth Philosophy |
There is only one person in the room who is capable of delivering this baby alone. |
During labour a woman has the opportunity to both discover her physical and psychological limits and to break beyond them. If she can tap into her body’s basic biological abilities and surrender to the awesome power of her own female rhythms, she will emerge with an unimagined respect for who she is and what she is capable of doing. All of this will make her a better mother: more capable, more confident, more trusting and forgiving of herself. We believe that women have the ability to give birth naturally, and modern medicine has the ability to help when something is not working as it should. Natural childbirth is not always either attainable or desirable. However, most women who say that they do not want a natural birth, actually mean that they do not want a painful birth. It is sad that these women believe that the only thing the birthing process has to offer them is pain. At The Giving Birth , we believe that there is so much more.

Our culture has come to view birth as a challenge to be overcome: the last hurdle before you get to hold your baby. Women and caregivers alike believe that pain is the defining feature of giving birth and that the moment of birth marks the end of pregnancy and the beginning of your child’s life. It has no value in and of itself. At The Giving Birth we believe that birthing is both a part of the process of becoming a mother, and also an independent event that has far reaching importance for a woman’s sense of self. |
